Field of Dreams Info for Band

I wanted to take some time and reach out with some information that I have recently received. All of which is good news and worth the time to share with everyone.

 

First up: Saputo Stadium Updates (AKA - PHS Field of Dreams)

For the first time in PHS history, the Red Raider Band will have their own bleachers (250 seating capacity) directly across from the home/visitor bleachers. This means we will be seated on the east side of the field playing/performing to the west side bleachers (the audience). This will be a fantastic development as the hard work that we put in to sounding great can now be more easily shared, directly with the audience.

It should be noted that only athletic shoes with rubber soles can be worn on the artificial turf. This would include our fabulous marching “dinkle” shoes. 

 

In conjunction with our awesome bleachers, a driveway to our bleachers has been constructed so our equipment vehicle and trailer can deliver items that we cannot march over. The truck and trailer can be parked directly behind our band bleachers.

 

Halftime Performance Updates

With the development of a new stadium, many ceremonial dedications and speeches are expected. Even with this common practice, we will still be able to perform on the field for a full 10 minutes, 3 of the 4 home games.

Thank you to PHS Athletic Director, Ms. Janel Batten for orchestrating this schedule to accommodate all parties that are involved with the pre-game and halftime shows.

 

9/2/16 - No pre-game show, full halftime show (10 minutes)

9/23/16 - Pre-game show and a ‘band night’ halftime show (10 minutes) with PCMS 7th & 8th grade band members

9/30/16 - Pre-game show and a shortened halftime show (7.5 minutes) for “Parent & Youth Football Night” introductions

10/14/16 - Pre-game show and full halftime show (10 minutes) for our Fall Festival

 

We are going to be looking into the possibility of performing on a Monday evening or 2 for the half-time of the JV football games. This will allow our band members more opportunity to perform in front of an audience versus simply rehearsing on a regular basis. More details to follow once we have an opportunity to discuss this with our section leaders and leadership of the PMB, namely uniform managers.

 

Added rehearsal: On Monday, 8/29/16 - we will be adding a rehearsal to best prepare for the inaugural game/performance on our new field.

 

Lastly, a HUGE thank you to our buildings and grounds folks who organized our summer band camp! Their flexibility and efforts made it possible for our 2016 band camp to be a complete success, even with all of the construction challenges and weather. Thank you Kevin Bahr and Courtney VanBoxtel!
